"In crafting there are no mistakes just creations"

Diwali, the most prestigous festival of India were the whole India lit up with diyas.

It is the festival of 'light' or 'diyas' along with the happiness and joy. The main concept of celebration of Diwali is on that, the victory of the good against the evil. Lightening up diyas and diminishing the evil darkness represents the concept. Mostly the Diwali comes in late October or early November. As in Hindu months, it falls on the 15th day of the Karthik. Not only diyas, the firecrackers are also extensively used, the fly over the skies and colour it up. It is believed that the sound of the crackers would frighten the evil, also it is the expressions of joy of people showing to the god.

Now a days the use of firecrackers have been limited to large extense because of its polluting nature. The cracking of lots of firecrackers can pollute the air which can lead to noxious effects on the life of people on later.

Diwali is an very ancient festival of India. It is celebrated as commemoration of the return of Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshman after his 14 year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In some parts, its also believed to be the celebration on the marriage of the Lord Lakshmi, the goddess of the wealth, with Lord Vishnu.

So for the last Diwali I have created Diwali Devi candle stand. Lets see how to create this!

1. Creating the base

  • Cut a rectangular cardboard in the size of 25x18 cm. Cut a thermocol of the similar size.

  • Make an arch on the two borders and cut the edges of both the cardboard and thermocol, giving it a round edges.

  • Paste the thermocol piece over the cardboard.

  • Cut three rectangular pieces of thermocol, one smaller than each paint it with red and paste it. Over this, i have set small idol of Devi.

  • Take a round cardboard or else you could also prefer using CD. Paste any glitter paper or felt sheet over it, as you prefer. Decorate it with the small white bead chain, small golden bead chain, kundans, glitters, floral kundans, pearl beads etc.

  • Take a three small pieces of popsicle, cut them in equal size and paste them on the round cardboard base, one on the top and the two other on the sides.

  • I have also included some mini pieces, the mini thali with allankars and a mini flower thalli.

2. Creating candle stand

  • Take about 6 cup shaped base to which the wax string is placed in middle and candle wax is poured into it and dry it. Take three plate base and make candles.

  • Place the three of cup shaped candles on the popsicle piece on the round blue base.

  • Place 3 flat candles on the front of the base.

  • Place remaining 3 candles on the base, one down to the red base and other two placed on two wooden stick.

  • Decorate the remaining area with other decorative items as per wish.

Lit it up!

Enjoy the festives...with diy.
