Terracotta Peacock Necklace

Have you ever made something with Air dry clay? Well, its really interesting.

You may be wondering what is difference between normal earthen clay and air dry clay. Well as the name specifies, this clay dry in normal room temperature.

Air dry clay is widely used in many craft projects. It does not need to be heated, this is one reason most of people prefer using air dry clay. Normal traditional clay need to be fired in a kiln at a high temperature and polymer clays are need to be heated in an oven to harden them. After getting air drying your clay, you can draw designs, sketch, paint it ... etc

I have created Terracotta Peacock pendant necklace using air dry clay. I used black, red and metallic golden acrylic paints to make the design.

• How to make clay beads ?

-->Roll up the clay into thick stand. It should have diameter of 1cm.

--> Cut them into equal proportion, not so big and not so small. Take about cut in 1cm in distances.

--> Roll up each pieces into spherical shape and press a little of the bead on top and bottom. This gives a roundel shape to bead

--> With large needle, pierce the bead from top to bottom to make hole on it.

--> Keep it for drying.

-->After complete dry, paint it with Golden Metallic Acrylic paint. Keep again for dry.

Since i am using air dry clay, i don't have to bake it. If you prefer to do with normal clay, bake it for hardening it as per instructions given on the packet.

• How to create terracotta locket ?

--> Roll the clay into thick sheet, about 0.7 cm thickness

--> With round cutter, cut the circle piece of clay

--> Using one edge of the cutter, cut on side the cut out round clay, giving a outward arch.

--> With 5 beads and bead pin, insert each beads to lower part of locket

--> Put eye pin on the both end of arch

--> Now keep for drying

--> After get drying, using pencil, make small outline of picture on it and then you can do your painting.

--> Once it is dry apply sealant over it

--> Stick small golden bead chain around the edge of locket

--> Keep for complete dry.

Once everything is ready, take long stand of jewellery making wire. Put golden bead, small seed bead and black beads one by one. Tighten the end of strand with clasp and locks. Attach locket with the chain

YUP!......Its ready....... It goes best with all ethnic wears.
