Well have you ever heard about porcelain clay. As i said in my previous blogs about clay, there are mostly two types, baking clay and air dry clay. Normally traditional clay is cured by baking it in high temperature. Air dry clay are the one which get cured with normal room temperature and porcelain clay is one of it. Porcelain clay or cold porcelain clay is best clay to opt for doing your craft. You can also cook porcelain clay at home itself. The porcelain clay get cured with the air and its very simple to make handmade porcelain clay. In my future post you can get the recipe and making of the handmade porcelain clay. So stay tune....

Who doesn't like floral designs? Simply with the porcelain clay i have made Richardson's Geranium floral locket with long silk tassel. This one is exclusively for the kids and i hope they would like this so much. Even this is so simple that kids could try to create this on their vacation times.

You may be wondering why i have named the locket as Richardson's Geranium, this is just because the it is a flower to which i have made the locket similarly. It have five petals and the make shades with combination of white , pink and violet colours. This plant is a perenial herb that grows up to height of 20 - 80 centimeters.

How to make Richardson's Geranium floral locket with tassel, step by step:-

  1. Roll up the clay and take small portion of clay from it. Roll it up to a thick strand by keeping it in between palms and roll. Cut the thick strand of the clay into 5 equal parts.

  2. Roll each pieces into a complete spherical ball.

  3. Now take on of it, roll and press into flat petal. Do the same with all other 4 pieces. Now fold the sides of petal in one edge as if your pinching on one end of petal. this gives clear shape to the petal. Repeat this method with all other.

  4. Now you can join the all the five petals and pinch in the centre to join them completely.

  5. Make a hole in the one of the petal and before it dry, just opposite to the hole made, insert an eye pin this is to hang the tassel.

  6. Take a small piece of clay, roll it up, flattened it to a small sheet like and paste it on the centre of backside of locket.

  7. Keep it aside for complete dry.

  8. Now you can use acrylic colour or any other type of colour to decorate your locket as you desire. Here to the centre i like to give a pinkish shade, so i have just rubbed pink metallic dust with the brush slowly. I have only brushed only to centre. Now from the top of petal i have brushed with pearl white silver.

  9. Give finishing to locket with sealant.

  10. Keep it aside for complete dry and at this time you can make your tassel.

  11. Take a small piece of cardboard and silk thread reel (colour - as your preference, i used light pink silk thread). Wrap about 30 - 35 turns of thread around the cardboard. Tie a knot at the centre and cut the thread opposite to it. Now hold at the knotted region and wrap thread around it so that you could get the head of the tassel.

  12. Put ring to the head of the tassel and attach to the eyepin in locket.

  13. Put another ring to the hole in the petal.

  14. Finally, put the locket into the chain.

here we go..... the locket is ready...:)

try it......,
